AVIAN INFLUENZA

Avian Influenza--also known as Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) or Bird Flu or Avian Flu, or H5N1--has been found in New York State since 2022 in domestic poultry, wild birds, a few species of mammals. There have been no human cases and no detections in cattle in NYS as of 2025 and the risk to the general public is considered "low." Which is not the same as "none."
